Meet your Science Advocate
It all began with a possum…
The problems of the world can be overwhelming. For Sneha, it felt like leaders were making decisions that weren’t entirely helpful for our planet. While writing a report about the impacts of humans on the survival of a very endangered Australian possum, she became outraged. That was until a mentor told her that people are not all bad; we are just uninformed.
It was then that Sneha realised humans need to be empowered with the knowledge and facts we need to feel connected to ourselves and our world. This will (hopefully) help us make better decisions overall.
The key? Science.
Thus, our Science Advocate was born.
…but what is science?
Good question! The term science originally comes from the Latin scientia, which means knowledge. Science is also known as scientific inquiry or the scientific method, which emphasises its basis in research.
The Oxford Dictionary defines modern-day science as “a branch of study that deals with a connected body of demonstrated truths or with observed facts systematically classified and more or less comprehended by general laws, and incorporating trustworthy methods (now especially those involving the scientific method and which incorporate falsifiable hypotheses) for the discovery of new truth in its own domain”.
But that’s a mouthful, and the Science Advocate is all about simplicity. So we define science simply as “ethically and repeatedly testing predictions to find evidence-based truths”. These predictions can be from any discipline in the entire world (think genetics, literature, even artificial intelligence), but for this blog, we will limit science to the natural world.
About Sneha
Sneha completed her Bachelor of Science (Neuroscience) in 2022 with a first-class honours grade. Feeling like her talents lay in reproduction and fertility, she completed her Graduate Diploma in Reproductive Sciences in 2024. She graduated with a high distinction as Semi-Dux of her cohort.
Sneha is a proud nerd and a strong Harry Potter fan. When she is not sharing random facts with her family and friends, you will find her doing Buzzfeed quizzes or cuddling with her bunny, Dobby.
